Below I’ve collected 5 tested affiliate marketing strategies all aimed at increasing your conversion rates. You can find 10 additional great tips at the very bottom of this page.
Enjoy and happy conversions!
1. Hide Your Affiliate Links with Redirects
Usually the affiliate links you get from most affiliate networks look pretty awful. They’re
- looking like gibberish
- including way too many numbers
- and so on…
Heck, as far as anyone can tell, they look like a scam artist’s web address or a virus-infected page’s destination!
As a result, people are not likely to click on them, since they have no idea where it will lead them.
So to increase your conversion rates by calming people down and making it obvious where your links lead, use a more compelling URL and redirect it to your affiliate link.
For example, my affiliate link for Sparkol VideoScribe is http://www.sparkol.com/
Although it doesn’t look too bad, I still decided to redirect it using a simpler URL:sparkol.businessonlineguidance.com
It takes my readers to the same place (Sparkol’s homepage) and tracks my affiliate links the same way, but it looks much better and improves my CTR.
You can use the following free WordPress redirection plugin to implement this affiliate marketing strategy: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-pagepost-redirect-plugin/
2. Promote Stuff You Actually Use
The best affiliate marketing strategy is to promote only those products that you’re familiar with yourself. This will
- help you write more helpful reviews that convert better
- come across as more honest and sincere (again, higher CTR)
- ensure that you don’t damage your reputation in your readers’ eyes by promoting low quality products.
Also, this is the only way you’ll be able to answer all your readers’ questions about how the product works and what it can do, which is essential for converting those readers who’re still on the fence.
3. Show EXACTLY How the Product Works
One of the most common mistakes newbie affiliate marketers make is writing short, who-cares, just click on my affiliate link type of reviews and expecting people to buy.WRONG!
Not only will you repel your readers this way, even the search engines will penalize your site for “thin affiliate content”.
Instead, share your experiences regarding the product and demonstrate exactlyhow it works and how it can make your readers’ lives easier.
If you’re promoting only products that you use yourself, this is going to be very easy. In fact, it will make writing a review a child’s play.
To show you an example, there’s a whiteboard video animation software product that I’m using called Sparkol VideoScribe. When I wrote a review about it, I didn’t just reiterate basic info that can be found anywhere else on the web.
Instead, I shared everything I learned about it while using it myself for creating whiteboard videos. I even created a sample video to show them EXACTLY how it works and how they can produce their own videos with it.
4. Offer a Bonus Incentive
Offering bonuses to convince people to buy something is a common sales copywriting technique. However, you can take advantage of it even as an affiliate marketer.
Simply create a short eBook or another gift that’s closely related to the product you’re promoting. Then, make it clear for your readers that whoever orders the product through your affiliate link will get instant free access to your bonus gift as well.
How can you check whether they’re telling the truth and really purchased thought your affiliate link?
Ask them to send you the transaction ID number they received in email when they ordered and verify it in your merchant’s affiliate center. This is a sure-fire way to make sure you never get scammed.
Trust me, this affiliate marketing strategy is bound to increase your conversion rate.
If you want an example, this technique was the one that convinced me several times to order a certain product from one particular affiliate, instead of another one. I even went as far as to clear the cookies from my computer to make sure my sale is credited to another affiliate so that I can get his promised bonuses.
5. Create a Resources Page
As I’ve already mentioned this strategy in one of my monthly reports, creating a Resources Page for your website’s platform is a foolproof method to increase your affiliate income.
A resources page is a page where you list all the
- and other stuff
that you recommend for people who’re interested in your niche. I talked to several webmasters and bloggers in the field, and they all reported that a HUGE chunk of their total affiliate earnings come from their resources pages. Some say it’s as high as 30%!
So it can be a very good affiliate marketing strategy to create your own resources page as well and link to it from a very prominent place (i.e.: home page, navigation bar).
